Niigata Vietnam Festival 2026

Bringing Vietnamese culture to Nagaoka

Kim Bergström   - 2 min read

Japan travelers can experience a taste of Vietnam in Niigata at the Niigata Vietnam Festival, a two-day event celebrating Vietnamese food, culture, music, and traditional crafts.

Held at Hive Nagaoka, the festival offers plenty of opportunities to discover Vietnamese culture, from lively lion dances and traditional dance performances to Vietnamese folk songs and traditional musical instrument performances. There will also be bamboo dancing and appearances by local Japanese performers, creating a cultural exchange between Niigata and Vietnam.

Food is another highlight, with stalls serving Vietnamese favorites including pho, bun bo Hue, banh mi, Vietnamese pudding, Vietnamese coffee, and tapioca milk tea. It's a good opportunity to sample several dishes in one visit, particularly if you are already a fan of Vietnamese cuisine.

Visitors can also get involved with hands-on activities. Try painting a non la, the traditional Vietnamese conical hat, make a miniature Vietnamese lantern, or take part in a dragonfly coloring activity. A Vietnamese lantern photo spot will also provide a bright backdrop for photos.

The festival is organized by Niigata Prefecture with support from the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan and local international exchange organizations. Admission is free, making it an accessible way to spend a few hours discovering Vietnamese culture without leaving Niigata.
