Niigata City is set to host its largest-ever citywide celebration this summer with the debut of NIIGATA ULTRA SPARK, a two-day event that will turn the entire downtown into one sprawling festival space.

Taking place on June 13th and 14th, 2026, the event will unfold across multiple locations in central Niigata, including the Bandai, Furumachi, Hakusan, and Niigata Station areas. Designed as a "city-wide social experiment," the festival aims to bring together locals and visitors through a mix of culture, entertainment, and interactive experiences.

Rather than a single venue, NIIGATA ULTRA SPARK connects a wide range of events happening simultaneously throughout the city. Highlights include the Tanabata Wind Chime Festival at Hakusan Shrine, where hundreds of chimes create a calming summer atmosphere, and the Thousand Lantern Festival in Honmachi, featuring handmade lanterns from local residents.

Along the Shinano River, large-scale events will take center stage, including a waterfront live concert, projection mapping on historic buildings at Minatopia, and a lively Bon Odori dance festival. Meanwhile, the Bandai and Niigata Station areas will host interactive events such as a grand community dance, candlelight displays, and experimental public space projects.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the city on foot or by using small mobility options like e-scooters and electric tuk-tuks, turning the entire experience into a moving festival.
