PEACE BOAT Drone Show 2026

Hundreds of drones set to light up the sky above Miyako Port

Miyako City on Iwate Prefecture's Sanriku coast is set for a spectacular summer evening, with hundreds of drones preparing to light up the sky above Miyako Port.

The PEACE BOAT Drone Show will take place at Fujiwara Wharf on August 12, beginning at 7:45 PM, as part of the 58th Miyako Summer Festival. The timing also coincides with the arrival of the cruise ship Pacific World at Miyako Port, giving the waterfront an especially lively atmosphere.

Hundreds of drones will move through the night sky in time with music, creating images and patterns inspired by Miyako's natural beauty and its character as a port town. The display will also feature three-dimensional effects, using depth and movement to create a more immersive spectacle.

For travelers exploring Iwate, it's a particularly nice excuse to add Miyako to a summer itinerary. The city is surrounded by some of the most striking scenery along the Sanriku coast, including rugged cliffs, beaches, and dramatic ocean views. Staying into the evening means getting to experience a completely different side of the destination.

The drone show also offers an interesting contrast to the more traditional atmosphere of a Japanese summer festival. Instead of fireworks, the night sky will be filled with hundreds of precisely coordinated points of light, with the Pacific Ocean and Miyako Port providing the backdrop.

If you're traveling along the Sanriku coast this summer, this is one event worth timing your visit around. A seaside city, a summer festival, and hundreds of glowing drones overhead sounds like a pretty memorable combination.
