The Hakkoda Cable Car opened in 1968 and is the name of a Japanese cable car line and its operator of the same name. The line climbs Mount Tamoyachi in the Hakkoda Mountains in Aomori. It carries skiers from late November to mid-May and hikers in the other seasons.
A 10-minute drive takes visitors to Tamoyachi-dake Sancho train station, from where there is a great panoramic view. The frost formations of the winter trees from February to March, as well as the autumn leaves between the end of September and mid-October, are particularly spectacular.
The gondola of this cable car was renewed in May 2003. It can carry up to 101 passengers at a time and was made in Switzerland.
