Kobe is getting a distinctly Moomin makeover this autumn, with "Moomin x Kobe Port Tower: A Part of Kobe" bringing the beloved Finnish characters to locations across the city from October 10 to November 30.
Centered around Kobe Port Tower, the event will connect several of Kobe's popular areas, including the waterfront, Motomachi, and Kitano. Visitors can expect Moomin-themed photo spots, special menus, merchandise, and collaborations at participating hotels, restaurants, shops, and attractions. More details will be announced closer to the event.
The main event is free to enjoy, although individual facilities and activities may have their own costs. Kobe Port Tower will serve as the main venue, with participating locations including hotels, restaurants, cruises, and attractions throughout the city.
There will also be some special sights around the waterfront. When the sailing ship BLUE OCEAN Miraie is docked beside Kobe Port Tower, it will fly a Moomin-themed flag. On October 12 and 13, Kobe Port Tower and Kobe Maritime Museum are also scheduled to be illuminated in blue and yellow, the event's theme colors.
Running alongside the citywide event is the Tove and Moomin Exhibition: Searching for Special Things at Kobe City Museum from October 10 to December 13. The exhibition features around 300 works and personal items connected to Moomin creator Tove Jansson, including original drawings, sketches and artwork from throughout her career.
There will also be Moomin-themed letter-writing events at Kobe Central Post Office on October 11 and 12.
